EEA organized the Eighth Amhara Regional conference on Sept 23, 2017

The EEA Bahir Dar chapter organized a one day conference on the Economic development of Amhara Regional State for a eighths round on 23 September 2017 in collaboration with Ethiopian Economic Association at Bahir Dar Homeland Hotel. The conference was opened by Ato Demirew Getachew, Head EEA Secretariat and Dr. Mulunesh Abebe, Vice President for Research and Community Services of  Bahir Dar University; this was followed by an official opening statement by H.E. Ato Gedu Andargachew President of Amhara Regional State. The Ethiopian Economic Association Bahir Dar Chapter comprises three member universities, namely Gonder University, Wollo University and Debremarkose University. It is centered in the Department of Economics, Bahir Dar University.

During the conference, ten papers were presented by various researchers from Ethiopian Economics Association and from different Universities of Bahir Dar, Debre Markos, and Amhara Agricultural Research Institute. The papers focus on Agricultural Transformation in Ethiopia, Prospects for Harnessing the Demographic Dividend in Ethiopia, Effect of Climate Variability on Crop Income in Central Ethiopia, Child poverty and vulnerability in Amhara region: situational analysis, Determinants of Household Saving Behavior: Case of East Gojjam Zone, Bread Wheat Seed Demand Dynamism: The Case of High Potential Wheat Growing Areas of East Gojjam zone, and so on

The objective of the conference was to strengthen the regional economic development by further inspiring the researchers and disseminate the research outputs to the people and/or regional policy makers. It also gives an opportunity for researchers and participants to share their experiences and enhance their linkage. The conference attracted about 80 participants.
