Elasticity of Urban Poverty with Respect to Growth and Distribution: Panel Data Analysis


Four years urban household survey data collected from seven urban centers by the department of economics of Addis Ababa university and the department of economics of got berg university of Sweden are used to analyze the elasticity of urban poverty with respect to growth and distribution econometric model employed for panel data analysis indicated the urban poverty is more elastic to distribution than growth and it is homogenous in time and space. For effective and quick results in urban poverty reduction, the paper suggests that policies and strategies reoriented to enhance equity in long-term is appropriate in the context of increasing income disparities between poor and non- poor in Ethiopia
